Will History Repeat Itself on Melton Road?

Some 270 houses are to be built on land bordering East Goscote, Rearsby and the Rearsby bypass with access proposed on Melton Road.
With a likely average of two vehicles per household and over five years of construction traffic over 7.5 tonnes, all using Melton Road, the impact on road safety seems obvious.
Many local residents will recall that similar conditions existed before the Rearsby bypass was built. Large HGV vehicles and all general traffic used the Melton Road through Syston, Queniborough and East Goscote and the accident and safety impact was so high that the Rearsby bypass was eventually built to remove HGV traffic over 7.5 tonnes and reduce the volume of traffic using Melton Road.
Why then would Charnwood planning department and the Highways department allow history to repeat itself?
