New Barkby W.I.
New Barkby’s November meeting began with the singing of ‘Jerusalem’. After a small number of business matters, the meeting then became the institute’s Annual Meeting. Committee members Mrs: Jean Brutnall, Valerie Cobb, Shirley Franklin, Joy Gouldon, Angela Montague, Jan Oliver. Member and W.I. Adviser Alma Wright led an election for President for the following year. Shirley Franklin was duly re-elected. She thanked committee members and members for their support during the challenging times, due to the covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. There were also reports given by the secretary and then the treasurer.
The evening was rounded off with a fun auction in aid of the institute funds. There were celebrations during the following week as members enjoyed our evening meal at the Queen Victoria Public house/Restaurant in Syston to acknowledge the institutes 96th birthday, organised by Angela Montague.
Our meeting held on Wednesday 1st December at 7.30pm, in the Community Centre, was a Christmas celebration with a short carol concert, followed by a fun time and refreshments.
