Friends of Barkby Road Cemetery
Hello it’s Ros.
What lovely weather we’re having at the moment which is making the cemetery look even more beautiful. The flowers are gorgeous now and the birds have found the feeder- please feel free to feed and water them whenever you are there, they appreciate it.
The National Federation of Cemetery Friends, of which we are an associate member, held an open week from 30th April to 8th May. To help with this The Friends of Syston, Barkby Road, Cemetery held an open afternoon on 7th May with a theme of raising the awareness of the Commonwealth War Graves within the Cemetery. We have ten War Graves and we identified each one on the day with a balloon. Two were difficult to locate because they are private headstones.
Is been a busy time changing the displays in the Chapel to keep up with the various celebrations which are coming so close together. We have lots of new plans for further improvement to the Chapel so watch this space!
Have a good month, enjoy the extended bank holiday and there will be a display for the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen to mark her 70th year on the throne. If you wish you can donate plants or shrubs in memory of loved ones so if you wish to do this please contact Catherine Voyce at Syston Town Council via 0116 260 7150. Also the Chapel is available to hire again once again if you contact Catherine Voyce at Syston Town Council.
If you would like to join the friends of Syston Cemetery please contact me via Syston Town Council.
