Explore by Foot

During the very first lockdown, back in 2020, I had the idea to develop a user-friendly footpath map specifically for Rearsby and all of the surrounding towns and villages accessible by foot. It seemed to me that whilst there were so many more people out and about exploring the area, so many did not truly appreciate the extensive network of fantastic footpaths that we have around us. This inhibited them not only from some lovely strolls, but also from discovering new villages and the amenities within them. So, two years on and the idea has finally become a reality! Whilst it may not now be the case that a countryside stroll is the highlight of your social calendar for the week, as a fan of pub walks and local explorations myself, I like to think that many of us will still be getting out and about by foot and may be interested to learn of those areas accessible and the services within them to stop for refreshment or a browse of local produce.
Together with a couple of incredibly talented designers/artists two maps have been born that will go either side of a sheet of A2, that will fold down to fit in the pocket, perfect for any length of excursion. One side will feature a user-friendly footpath map, very similar to OS walking maps, with Rearsby at the centre but expanding out to include all surrounding areas (Thrussington, East Goscote, Ratcliffe-On-The-Wreake, Syston, Queniborough, Cossington, Sileby, Barkby, Seagrave, South Croxton, Barsby, Ashby-Folville, Gaddesby, Frisby, Rotherby, Hoby) with an accompanying key to indicate where there are local shops, cafes, village pubs etc. The reverse side of the map will show a beautiful artwork depiction of Rearsby village itself including historic buildings and points of interest that you will be able to spot on your way around.
I hope that many of you will find these maps useful and will hopefully discover some new favourite places. We are close to going to print and hope to have them available from the tearoom by mid July.
