Friends of Barkby Road Cemetery

Hello everyone it’s Ros from sunny Syston – what a month it’s been.
I was very honoured and humbled to be nominated for an award for my work with the cemetery and Chapel. I would like to thank whoever nominated me from the bottom of my heart. Dave and I attended the ceremony where I was presented with my Super Trooper award. I love my work in the cemetery and Chapel, it is so calming and peaceful. I also want to thank Syston Knitting Banksy, who donated to us the forget me not display which is proudly on display this month in the Chapel.
The displays have been continuing as usual keeping me very busy especially the Platinum Jubilee one.
There will be a summer theme now until September. To continue with the upkeep of the Chapel a new carpet is to be fitted to the altar and the Vestry in the Chapel on 8th July. I hope you like it. I wonder what the next big project will be??
In the cemetery the weeds grow fast and the flowers die quickly in this weather so the hard work is never ending. Hopefully the highways department will soon spray the outside of the cemetery railings, I know this looks a mess!
Enjoy the summer. It’s so peaceful just to sit and listen to nature and look at the beauty within our lovely cemetery.
As always if you wish to donate plants / shrubs etc or hire the Chapel then please contact Catherine Voyce at Syston Town Council, Tel: 0116 260 7150.
Till next month take care everyone. Remember to say hello if you see me there with my grandad’s silver coloured bucket or doing things in the Chapel.
