Wreake Valley Rotary Club
Alan Morley Award
Wreake Valley Rotary Club’s Alan Morley Award is presented each year in the memory of one of our past members. It goes to an individual or individuals within our Community who have gone beyond normal expectations in their chosen area of Community work or service.
We are delighted that this year’s award has recently been awarded to Phil and Tracy Smith of Syston RFC.
The picture left shows Shirley Morley presenting her cheque.
Rotary’s declared statement is ‘Service before Self’ and Phil and Tracy have certainly put Syston RFC and its wider community before themselves time and time again over many, many years. Between them, they have held all manner of positions of responsibility and carried out necessary jobs of every description from the more mundane to vitally important and are known by everyone at the rugby club as ‘Mr and Mrs Syston’ and we are delighted to make this award which was so modestly and graciously accepted.
The award consists of a trophy to be held for one year, a framed certificate to keep, shown in the picture left being presented by WVRC President Fiona Pimm, and two cheques (from WVRC and Shirley Morley respectively), which will be donated by Phil and Tracy to their chosen local charity, namely ‘Thrummy Drummers’ a Thurmaston based Dementia Group Charity.
