Harvest Lunch
The month of October opened to the promise of a full harvest moon and continuing weather changes. As we watched Hurricane Ian in Florida, floods in Pakistan and Australia we ponder on the might of nature. We give thanks for all that we have received in our homes. This was reflected in the Harvest Service on the 2nd October. Following the service, we sat down together for a harvest lunch. Thanks were given by Reverend Canon John Leonard.
Remembrance Sunday
We will be holding our usual remembrance church service on the 13th November at 10am.
The church will also be open from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. This is a rare occasion to view memorial books which contain the complete list of all the Syston soldiers who died in WW2 and the names and photos of local men who died in the WW1. It is also an opportunity to have some quiet time to contemplate.
The Remembrance books of Syston men who died in the two world wars can also be viewed on the Town Council’s website.
Women in the Bible
We continue to meet the women in the bible who influence faith and the development of Christianity. These are held in Barkby Church on the last Thursday of the month. The next session is on 24th November. We start at 7.15pm with a social gathering including wine and/or tea and coffee. All are welcome.

Ringing for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth 11
It was a great honour to be part of a nationwide request that church bells be rung before the funeral of her late majesty, Queen Elizabeth 11.
Many thanks go to ringers from neighbouring churches who made this possible and to John Gamble who ensured that the bells were half muffled beforehand.
When the ringers had moved on to ring in Queniborough, Matthew Jones tolled the tenor bell, the heaviest at 150.75 cwt, 96 times very slowly. This is a very difficult task. It was very moving to sit in the ringing chamber listening to our melodic tenor rung so slowly and with such reverence.
Cream Teas
Out came the china cups and 50s music for our cream tea event at the end of September. Held inside the church, people of all ages came together to enjoy a choice of delicious scones, a sit down and a chat. The church’s wedding albums were on display as well as stalls selling a selection of cakes, preserves and plants. Over £300 was raised and we look forward to welcoming people back on Saturday 10th December for a similar event with a Christmas feel. Watch out for more information!
Christmas Cafe
We are holding an event in the church and church hall on Saturday 10th December from 10am to 2pm. There will be home made soups to enjoy along with hot drinks. There will be stalls in the church along with an activity for children. Look forward to seeing you there!
