Town C.C. Gearing Up For The Challenges Ahead

The AGM of Syston Town C.C. was held at The Pharmacie Arms at the end of January and was well attended as usual. David Fox was elected to start his 29th year as President, Ivan Spibey was re-elected as Chairman, Chris Pole as vice chairman, Sarah Braker as Secretary and myself as Treasurer.
The 1st XI will be returning, after a year’s absence, to the Premier Division of the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League. Last year’s skipper Ram Ghuman has stepped down so former captain Umar Razzaq was elected to lead the side once again. Umar (pictured left) has been with the club since 2008 and in that time he has scored over 5000 runs and taken over 200 wickets. He will be supported by club stalwart Charlie Taylor who will be vice-captain. The 2nd XI will be under new management with Henry Whait leading the team supported by vice-captain Joe Storer. Ivan will also once more be leading the super Sunday XI. Hannah Driver will lead the Sirens and Joe Howlett the Burrough League team.
Dave Tebbutt, who took over the vital position of Junior Co-ordinator early last season, will be continuing in that role as well as acting as the club’s Welfare Officer. Junior teams of all age groups will be fielded in 2023. The Under 19s and Under 17s will be managed by Atul Patel, the Under 15s by Yash Kapdi, the Under 13s and Under 11s by Dave himself and the Kwik cricketers by Chris Pole. Syston provides excellent coaching facilities at all age groups and the cost for juniors is a one off payment just £20 for the season.
Dave Tebbutt on 07805 706860 and Chris Pole on 07595 159650 will be happy to answer queries and questions about junior and senior cricket respectively. Details of outdoor practice sessions for juniors and seniors will be published in the next edition of STN.
