Green Flag Community Award

I am so proud of all we have achieved at the cemetery. The Friends of Barkby Road Cemetery have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Community Award, which our trusted Estates Manager will, I’m sure, proudly put up as soon as possible for us together with the plaque that accompanies the flag.
Thank you to everyone who has helped. It has taken nine years of working on the Chapel and the cemetery to achieve this standard of achievement.
Also, now in situ, to the left of our beautiful Chapel in the car park is the letterbox to heaven, where you can post letters to loved ones in heaven. It’s been a long time coming but is now in use.
It’s been quite busy as you can imagine over the last few months as a cycle of nature of life continues, as does our work there.
We really need to swell the number of the Friends of the cemetery, so if you feel that you can spare a few hours every now and then and would like to help us keep the cemetery in such pristine condition, please pop along to Syston Town Council and ask how to join the friends of Barkby Road Cemetery.
I hope that you enjoyed our D-Day display and also the open day when we celebrated the Commonwealth War Graves Commission graves.
If you would like to hire the Chapel you can do so by contacting Catherine Voyce at Syston Town Council on 0116 260 7150, and likewise if you would like to donate a rose to a loved one. (Many of the roses down the two runways have now died and will need replacing.)
Enjoy the summer, if we get one.
