NEW BARKBY WI

In a Back-to-Front June meeting for New Barkby W.I., Angela Montague, deputised for President Shirley Franklin, who was unable to attend.
Angela welcomed everyone and also Mr Bob Neill and his wife, Del, who provided members with a ‘bits and bobs’ quiz – items collected over time, which had had practical use in households from a by gone age (from 1940s and maybe earlier).
The objects were passed around for members to try and identify and listed on a quiz sheet. The answers were revealed later – no prizes though.
This evening, it was a celebration for New Barkby as the institute has been meeting at Syston Community Centre for twenty years, and that year (2005) Mr Neill had visited but at the W.I. Hall, which was in Maiden Street at that time.
The Competition winner for a useful kitchen gadget was Val Cobb with a modern jar and bottle opener. The raffle prize, a dahlia plant, was won by Cilla Lane.
Afterwards there was a brief session on W.I. business matters.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 2nd July, 7.30pm at Syston Community Centre when there will be a talk on ‘My life on board the Royal Yacht.’
All visitors are welcome to attend.
