¡Hola! ¿Hablas español? Do you go on holiday to Spain or to Spanish-speaking countries and wish you could carry out the basics such as ordering food and drinks or checking into your hotel? Apparently, learning a new language features among our top three New Year’s resolutions in the UK, below diet and exercise of course!
The British regularly give themselves a hard time over their ability to learn languages, I know I’ve seen it first-hand. However, there’s really no need to, I’ve been teaching languages for over twenty years to both adults and school children and I genuinely believe that anyone can learn a new language, especially Spanish! This is because, phonetically, Spanish is a one of the simplest European languages to learn. In other words, it’s a very easy language to speak once you learn how to pronounce your five basic vowel sounds together with a few simple (and regular!!) word combination quirks.
Trust me…English, French and Italian are all much more difficult to pronounce! The focus of my classes is on oral proficiency to give you the confidence to try out your Spanish while you’re abroad on holiday. To this end, I’ve included many different, practical situational dialogues and fun interactive activities to help you get started.
In terms of who I am and what makes me think I could teach you Spanish, I was born in Argentina and have lived in many different countries. Inevitably this meant having to learn various different languages and cultures to adapt to new ways of life, so I know how challenging it can seem to learn a new language. But it’s also exciting and immensely rewarding. For example, when you manage to tell the taxi driver where to drop you off in the local language or you successfully ask someone for directions, it’s a great moment! Plus, learning a second language is said to stave off dementia by an extra five years. It’s a win-win!
Additionally, I feel very fortunate to be able to offer my classes from Beardsley’s Tea Room. Not only will we be able to learn Spanish, but we can do so over a delicious slice of homemade cake and a wide range of drinks too! Indeed, you will be able to purchase food and drinks during our classes. A happy, relaxed pupil learns and retains information better!
