Letters
Dear Editor,
I am writing to you, as the Stn is the voice of the people, and I want the residents to know what our town council has done, as not everyone is on Facebook..
I saw on facebook, that Syston Town Council held a private lighting of a beacon on VE Day, Thursday 8th May.
How dare they be so disrespectful to the residents whose relatives served and some died in the Second World War.
This event in other towns and villages was open to the public. I believe the beacon used was purchased by the council last year for DD and was lit on Central Park. Why did this not happen this year?
We as tax payers paid for that beacon and yet they chose to light it in the car park behind the community centre under the pretext that it was because of health and safety!
I would suggest that it was more dangerous to light it in the car park than on the Central Park where all residents could have been a part of the lighting and be able to pay their own respects to those who gave us are freedom today.
If you are going to do something, do it properly or don’t do at all!
Doing it in secret is totally disrespectful to the residents of Syston.
