Mrs K Fryman, President welcomed members and friends to the institute’s August meeting. After business matters had been dealt with, there was a talk from Dr Serene Foster, accompanied by her husband Paul. Dr Foster is an immunologist and Principal Medical Herbalist at Hydes Herbal Clinic, in Leicester. The clinic was established at least 110 years ago and previous generations of the Hyde family had used dried herbs to treat certain medical conditions.
Gentian, Chamomile, Thyme, Licorice, Cinnamon and meadowswest are all beneficial to aiding a persons digestive system. As Dr Foster spoke about the various herbs, samples of creams and tinctures were passed around for members to sniff what the contents smelt like. Various treatments can make everything work for the wholeness of a person.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs A. Moutague. The competition for the letter ‘Y’ was won by Mrs L. Chapman who brought along an egg yolk.
The raffle prize winner was Miss L. Findlay, she won a book on Health and a packet of fruit teas.
The Tea Hostesses were Mrs L. Chapman and Mrs J. Malam.
Date of next Meeting: Wednesday 4th September, Syston Community Centre, 7.30pm. Visitors are always welcome to attend. The talk for the evening is entitled: “The Myths of Belly Dancing” The letter for the competition is ‘F’.
