Mosaic Exhibition – Wall of China
Over the weekend of the 26th to 28th July.
An exhibition of mosaics was held at Manor Farm, Barkby Thorpe to raise funds for Julia’s House, Children’s Hospice, Dorset.
Lucy explained that Tracy who attends her mosaic classes and who has become a friend over the years, had lost a friend to cancer and wanted to do something to celebrate her life.
Unsure as to what to do until another friend of Tracy’s was taking part in the walk of part of the great wall in china and that the funds raised would towards Julia’s house. As Tracy’s friend had been Julia, she decided this was what she should do and began training for the walk that takes place in October this year.
In order to take part, Tracy needed to raise over £3,000 to cover her travel and funds for the charity. So Lucy and members of the mosaic group along with family and friends decided to help her raise the money by creating their own version of a stretch of the Great Wall of China using ‘bricks’, which are actually terracotta chimney liners, but served the purpose well.
The exhibition took place in Strafford and in Barkby Thorpe, and the total raised at the weekend in Barkby Thorpe was £968, which added to the amount raise at the previous exhibition in Stratford made a total of £1500 raised.
Our pictures show just some of the exquisite mosaics created by everyone involved. All of which sold to raise the amazing amount for Tracy’s venture
