Fosseway Bowls Club

Sunday the 11th of August saw the revival of the Woodcock Gala at the Fosseway Bowling Club. This annual event had lapsed over the last few years but it was revived with enthusiasm this year.
Chris Tressler organised and managed the whole event with the help of several spread sheets and numerous coloured felt tipped pens . Twelve teams of three took to the green at midday prompt and survived several downpours, the whole tournament being completed by 5.30. The winning team consisted of Ian Gaiter, Jackie Storrs and Glen Barrow. Many congratulations to them.
Snack meals were provide by a team of our ladies while the bar was managed by Lee Pooley and Kelvin Clapham. Our thanks to them and of course, Chris himself.
The whole day was a great success and I have no doubt will become annual feature.
The picture above shows some of their players sheltering during one of the downpours.
Fossway Bowls Club On Tour
This year our destination was the Isle of Wight for the annual Fosseway Bowls tour. Forty five members boarded the bus early on the 15th August in fairly dull weather. Even missing our ferry across the Solent and having to wait two hours for the next available crossing did not damped our spirits.
The weather was not kind to us but our first hosts, Bembridge Bowling Club, arranged for us to play our match against them in doors. A big change for us having been playing through the summer on grass to suddenly have to adjust to playing on a carpet. However we did adjust and won the match. Our thanks to Bembridge for arranging the change.
Our second match was at Camp Hill Bowling club, known locally as the Prison. Again, it was a wet one with plenty of surface water to contend with. We notched up another win.
Our third and final game was at the Shanklin Bowls Club. What a contrast, a beautiful day and a near perfect green. Unhappily our one hundred per cent winning record was destroyed and we lost the match.
All three host clubs made us very welcome which added to a most enjoyable tour. Our thanks go to Linda and John Gant who organised the whole event. We raised £190 for John and Linda’s charity, MacMillan Cancer Support and almost £600 towards our club funds to provide the finishing touches to our refurbished club
