Syston In Bloom News

The Syston in Bloom Group is very proud to have received the ‘Judges Award’ for its contribution to Syston Town Council’s entry in the East Midlands in Bloom competition. This was awarded for ‘dedication and hard work’, recognising the efforts of the group to make Syston Station a more attractive place. In particular they were impressed with the memorial stone which was erected last year by the group to honour all those men and women who left by train to serve our country in times of conflict.
Syston in Bloom have also been awarded a Silver Level in the Community Rail Awards for 2019. This is in recognition of our continuing commitment to, and enhancement of, Syston Station.
September 21st was perhaps Summer’s last fling as far as the weather is concerned, which makes it all the more gratifying that sixty five people turned out for the annual Syston in Bloom Quiz.
The contestants were treated to a ploughman’s supper with as much dessert as they could manage. The raffle was a great success and altogether the event raised £547, which will greatly help with the provision of plants and materials for the coming year. The winning team was ‘The Woodentops’, seen above with some of the bedding plants they received as their prize. Congratulations to them for their success! We would also like to thank Tesco for it’s provision of raffle prizes, and the Village Bakery, and Gamble and Hollis for their help towards feeding the masses!
The Quiz was also an opportunity for Syston in Bloom, pictured above, to offer its limited edition 2020 calendar for sale. The calendar has been produced in collaboration with the Local History Group, and will be on sale until stocks run out! Calendars cost £4.00 each and are available from the Post Office, the Library, Community Centre, Peberdays and Millipix, as well as members of Syston in Bloom and the Local History Group
