Brass bands all over the country are now well into preparation for the biggest contest of the year, The Regional Championships, and Syston Band is no exception. Bands compete in their area, hence the contest is known as ‘The Area’ (usually spoken as if you can hear the inverted commas). Winners then go forward to take part in the National Championships. In 2016 Syston Band, for the first time in its history, qualified for the National Finals. This year the band is working extra hard to try to make history repeat itself. Watch this space! Thanks to the Chris Moore Foundation Fund there are now a number of young players receiving free tuition on instruments provided by the band. Learners receive individual tuition from a qualified music tutor and the youngsters playing at the moment have already become proficient enough to form their own junior brass group which meets on Wednesday evenings. If you know a young person who would be interested in joining there are spaces still available. To find out more email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07903 816 043.
