QT Theatre Group

As we continue to live through difficult, challenging and, dare I say ‘surreal’ times, I thought it only right that I update you regarding QTs’ forthcoming production, which was due to take place in the first week of June.

Two one-act comedies, Psychic Babble by Stephen Scheurer-Smith and Dining Out by James Leyland, were coming along very nicely but we all agreed that the correct thing to do, both morally and socially, was to cancel and not to put anyone at unnecessary risk, be it cast members or our valued audiences. We had also entered four of the scenes from our last production, Chance Encounters, into the Leicestershire & Rutland One-Act Play Festival, due to take place at the end of March, but this was also cancelled. However we hope that we shall be able to enter the same scenes again next year.

Jay Cundell Walker, who wrote Chance Encounters, has been shortlisted by Joseph Weinberger’s for an award so has launched a FaceBook Page, JCW Plays, and she has used one of the photos from our production as its profile picture! It shows Margaret Young playing Mrs N. and it was taken by my daughter Jo Gallagher! Both Margaret and Jo are very honoured and Jay told me that all our photos were ‘brilliant’!

So the plan is to reschedule our two plays for some time in November, incorporating whatever social distancing requirements are still in place at that time. Please be reassured that we shall do all that we can to safeguard everyone. Kat Seddon is supporting me as Assistant Director as I am hoping that my knee replacement surgery will go ahead, after four cancellations, once good health has been returned to us all. Many of the ‘usual suspects’ are in the casts – Ron Berry, Gill Bowler, Donna Gunn, Paul Puttnam, Jules Richards and Leigh White and we also welcome a new actor, Hannah Orton, to the group.

We have also had to cancel our Annual General Meeting in its physical form but we are going ahead with it by email. At least this way we can still ‘meet’ our members and hear their thoughts and ideas for the continuing success of QTs.

I do hope that you will want to come along to see this production. I will let you know the dates as soon as I am able to but, in the meantime, any further information about QTs can be found by checking out our website, www.qttheatregp.co.uk, our FaceBook page Syston QT Theatre Group, or emailing qtsyston@gmail.com.
