Wreake Valley Academy are currently fundraising to help their year 6 students’ transition into year 7.
Even in the best of times the reading ability of children can drop massively over the summer holidays. With the COVID-19 related school closures this is likely to be even worse this year.
To help ensure Syston students are able to read at least one book over the summer, Roundhill Academy and Wreake Valley Academy (both part of the Bradgate Education Partnership) are trying to raise funds to purchase books for all 300 year 6 students who will be joining these two secondary schools at the end of August.
In light of the pertinent and much-needed focus on Black Lives Matter, especially in a city with a high BAME population, the books that we are looking to purchase will include those by Black authors and with Black characters, to help educate students on anti-racism. We need a minimum of £1500 for this to be possible.
Any extra money raised will go towards buying books for our Year 10 students.
The academy have set up a Go Fund Me page: https://gf.me/u/x8aa6m which also contains more information.
