Wreake Runners Helping to Keep Syston Clean

A group of Wreake runners made up a group of 70 volunteers who took part in a litter pick on Sunday 6th June. The event was organised by Syston Town Council who were able to provide gloves, litter grabbers/sticks, collection bags and hi-vis vests.
Volunteers were designated areas in the town centre or able to choose an area if they had a specific preference. Included in the areas were Memorial Park, also known as ‘Donkey Park’ which is the base and meeting place for the running club on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Not only is litter unattractive and a danger to wildlife, it attracts negative behaviour. In a time where well-being is increasingly important and people are spending more time in their local areas, it is important to reduce our impact on the environment and make it a nice place to live.
Wreake runners see the impact of the litter within the area, from countryside verges to town centre streets and felt it was important to do their part and help keep the area tidy.
Many local residents were grateful for the litter pickers contributions and the club hope their efforts made an impact as well as encouraging other people to get involved in litter picking in the future.
