Classic Car Run for Rainbows Children’s and Young People’s Hospice

Local residents Terry Farmer, Vicki Friend and Mick Squire from Anstey decided that because there was a shortage of car runs this year that they would plan a short evening run and hope that the situation would allow this to happen!
It was named The Longest Day’s Evening Run and occurred on Tuesday 22nd June.
We were extremely lucky that the owner of Stonehurst Family Farm and Motor Museum were happy for us to begin and end the run on their premises. Even luckier that the weather was fine and dry. There was a great sense of pleasure that this run was taking place as, for some, this was the first outing for their vehicles. Cars gathered from 5pm and set off after about half an hour .
The run took the drivers, a large number of whom were members of the North Leicester MG Owner’s Club, and their navigators out and about some of the smaller lanes and ultimately the Charnwood Forest area to arrive back at the farm about an hour and half later. One unforeseen problem was that one of the roads had been closed, which involved a few smart phones or the good old OS map!
Back at the farm the partakers had had the opportunity to purchase a ticket for a buffet supper laid on by the farm owner. Instead of the queue for food each table had everything they would have queued for. The tables were laden with an excellent and copious choice of food. Drinks were included apart from anything alcoholic! The meal concluded with an individual portion of Pavlova.
Many thanks go to Stonehurst Farm Park for allowing us to use their premises and providing the amazing supper.
We hope to meet most of the participants and many, many more people for the 7th Annual Classic Car Run for the Rainbow’s Hospice on Sunday 5th September. Anyone wishing to participate should contact us at vicki.terry9@gmail.com or ring 07970 422 956 for details.
The best thing of all was that the event raised £500 for Rainbows!
