Another Journey for LOROS – Three generations – 14 weeks – 1000 miles!

Their journeys are now complete! Faith (8) has been an absolute superstar and has walked and cycled 100 miles, inspired by Captain Sir Tom’s ‘100 Challenge’. She has received an acknowledgement from the Captain Tom Foundation congratulating her on her efforts, something which put a big smile on her face! Maureen and Rachael had a very interesting virtual journey covering the distance from Land’s End to John o’Groats.
A lot of days they pedalled together linked up by phone or Skype, although conversation was sometimes difficult while trying to keep the pace up! They had discussions about what scenery they were ‘seeing’ and what local food they might have ‘tried’. Rachael’s mouth watered at the thought of Cornish pasties, Devon cream teas, a refreshing cider in Somerset and Welsh cakes as she travelled up past the boarders with thoughts of what lay ahead in Lake District spurring her on. As Maureen travelled from John o’Groats there was the thought of haggis, Scottish white pudding (she does not like black pudding!), cranachan and shortbread. She didn’t ‘see’ Nessie as she passed by Loch Ness but imagined the views of the Cairngorms with the reindeer roaming free. In her mind the scenery on her virtual ride through Glencoe was spectacular! After she passed through Glasgow, with her love of all things engineering and equestrian, she did a virtual detour to the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies – what a wonderful site! As they approached their meeting point at Windermere after 14 weeks and 450 miles each, they had the anticipation of Kendal Mint Cake and Grasmere Gingerbread – they were very glad all these calories were virtual!
So far they have raised £901 and are very grateful for all the support they have received and hope that they can reach £1000 for the 1000 miles. The Just Giving page will stay open until the end of September and they would be very grateful for any further donations.
Hopefully the ‘From Classics to Jazz’ concert will be able to take place next April (third time lucky!), or Maureen wonders where on earth she might have to pedal next?!!
Donations can be made via their Just Giving page and cheques made payable to LOROS (with Maureen’s ‘Another Journey for LOROS’ on the back) may be sent to Syston Town News, 55 Goodes Lane, Syston, Leics. LE7 2JL, and they will forward them to her.
