Welcome back to readers of Syston Town News from New Barkby W.I.

President of New Barkby W.I., Shirley Franklin, received applause as she announced a ‘Welcome back’ to the first monthly meeting since March 2020 at the Community Centre, Syston. There was a good turnout from existing members and some new visitors.
Jerusalem was sung behind masks; this followed with a minute’s silence in memory of Aideen Talbot, a late member of the institute, who passed away recently.
There was a small amount of business to attend to, plus the current financial report of the institute.
Speaker for the evening was Jayne Good from Broughton Astley. She is an artist, who visited New Barkby some time ago. She worked in ‘wet on wet’ using oil paints, first of all painting her canvas in white, then painted a glowing sunset in a seascape. On completion, she then put the picture into a frame. Everyone enjoyed seeing the finished result, seeing the sea from land locked Syston. Jayne made reference to the late Bob Ross and his painting programmes currently being shown on television. As well as talks, Jayne offers painting workshops and travels around the country running art classes.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs V. Cobb.
There was no raffle or refreshments available during the evening, but there was a small amount of time for members and friends to socialise.
The next meeting is Wednesday 1st September 2021 in the Community Centre, Syston at 7.30pm where the speaker will be Matthew Warburton on ‘Alluminium Art’.
