St Peter and St Paul Church News – Christmas

Christmas time will soon be upon us. We observe the season of Advent where we prepare ourselves for the birth of Christ. This season begins on the 28th of November up to Christmas Eve on the 24th December. It is a period of waiting to reflect on hope, peace, joy and love. During Advent we light a series of four candles, one each Sunday lit in expectation, in hope, and in longing in the light that is coming into the world. To help in this we are offering weekly sessions every Thursday afternoon from 2nd December at 2pm to look at ‘Art in Advent’. Please come along and join us for some or all of the sessions or contact Rev. Biddy for further details.
The Christmas Carol Service will, this year, be on Sunday 19th December at 3pm. For the younger members of the family there will be a Christingle Service at 4pm on Christmas Eve. Please come along and join us as we celebrate who Jesus is and how we can keep him close to us in everyday things such as fruit and other goodies.
Mid-night Mass will be celebrated in its traditional way of prayer, singing and communion at 11.30pm.
As we stride into 2022, we will be looking at ‘Women in the Bible’ from February. We will be hearing about the women you don’t usually ‘see’ or hear about but have such an impact on the whole biblical story. This will begin on 24th February at 7pm in Barkby Church. There will be guest speakers and light refreshments.
Eleven30 was all about love, love, love!
We thought about God’s love and how he can heal our sadness.
We were in the churchyard with an activity for each of three aspects of love.
In the first activity how God’s love can wrap around us. We wrapped a heart shape in wool.
We then thought of our love for ourselves and how we can pray and care for each other by drawing things that we love, such as family, friends, animals and so on.
Finally we thought about the world around us and how we can love it. We looked for some heart shaped leaves and planted bulbs to take home and care for.
We finished by going into church for prayer and then refreshments.
The first Sunday in December will have an Advent theme. Final arrangements for Christingle on Christmas Eve have not been made yet so keep an eye out for posters and on our Facebook page.
Tots at Ten
Tots at Ten, the popular meeting opportunity for babies and toddlers, will hopefully return in January 2022 at 10am every Tuesday in the Church Hall. We give thanks for all those who have helped it grow in the past. Special thanks go to John and Cynthia Tooth who have, for many years, helped keep this valuable meeting time going. We look forward to seeing familiar faces in Pete and Pam in the hall as well as Paul who meets and greets those for story and sing time in the Church. If you wish to help out in anyway please contact Rev Biddy – your help is needed especially with refreshments and setting up.
Coffee Morning Saturday 11th December
A chance to come in and meet up with friends to enjoy a ‘cuppa’ with carols quietly filling the air and setting the mood. The church will be decorated for Advent. A big screen showing of past days in Syston and a chance to view the new book ‘Syston in the 20th Century’ and order your own copy!
We are continuing with morning prayer on most Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9am, live on Facebook.
We also invite you to our evening service of Compline at 8pm on Wednesdays. If you would like to join us via zoom please contact Reverend Biddy who will forward the link. where you will also find contact details as well as news and information regarding Syston and Barkby Churches.
