Kathleen Rose Small
Friday 2nd December saw the Broadway Gospel Hall filled to capacity, as family and friends from near and far came to pay their respects and celebrate the life of Kathleen Rose Small (25th February 1931 – 11th November 2022).
Kathleen remembered attending Sunday School from the age of six in the Picture House in Syston and could remember the Gospel Hall being built and opened.
As a teenager she trusted the Lord as her Saviour, and this was the start of a full life of active service for the Lord. Both within the home and through visiting, Kathleen cared for elderly and infirm, encouraging believers and witnessing her faith through her kindness to all she met.
Kathleen and her late husband Doug’s home was open to family and friends. Missionaries and speakers would come to stay, enjoying home cooked food and warm fellowship.
Kathleen had a love for children. There are many people in Syston who remember Mrs Small, their Sunday School teacher, with fondness. Each Sunday they would be packed into the maroon-coloured Bedford van and driven by Doug to the hall. Kathleen also helped at camps, trips to the seaside and in her late 70’s once again helped with the children’s work at the hall.
Kathleen ran the Women’s meeting for many years. Kathleen was a great encourager, supporting old and young alike with a smile and warm comments.
Kathleen had a heart for Missionary work, supporting different projects; knitting blankets, rolling bandages, and most importantly supporting them through prayer.
We here at Broadway have been blessed by her warm, caring and compassionate fellowship, and although her loss has left a huge gap, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is with the Lord and Saviour.
