SKB Toppers Feature Across the UK
Syston is Syston is very proud of it’s Knitting Banxy and rightly so.
2022 saw a new topper almost every month and with some special bollard toppers too. We do wonder if SKB ever sleeps!
There are always lots of comments about SKB being given recognition for her work and towards the end of 2022 this happened from two different directions.
Firstly, SKB did a topper in October showing the characters from Ghosts the BBC programme. As regular listeners to Radio Leicester will know, your editor has the great pleasure of being the voice of SKB and speaking on the breakfast programme, I was able to offer on behalf of SKB the topper to the cast. This was welcomed by Laurence Rickard who co-writes the series and plays Robin and headless Humphrey. However, it wasn’t agreed on that day how the topper would be given to the cast.
Some weeks later, your editor received a call from Sophia at Radio Leicester to say she had organised VIP tickets for myself, SKB and herself to go to the screening of the Christmas episode of Ghosts at the British Film Industry on the Southbank in London, see image below of the topper in place in October 2022.
We weren’t quite sure what to expect so with a mixture of excitement and nervousness we made our way down to London on a very cold, snowy and frosty day. But we all had a fabulous time.
Your editor had the great pleasure of presenting the topper to the cast in the theatre after the screening and before a Q & A session with the fans in the audience. Ady Dayman host of the Breakfast show played the interviews Sophia was able to get with some of the cast after the screening.
We all met each member of the cast and spoke with them and they were all amazed by SKBs skill of capturing the features of the character in wool.
SKB and I talked about how far she had come from that very first topper in 2019 for mothers day.
It all began with her creating angels and tree hugging hangings back in 2017, then came the very first topper in 2019. Since then her work has appeared in a book, Lockdown Toppers. They have been seen in National newspapers, BBC News programmes, ITV Central news, Lorraine, and her biggest fans have always been Radio Leicester whom both SKB and I thank very much for arranging what has to be the highlight of 2022.

As well as these national appearances and recognition for our very talented mystery knitter, her designs of the Tommy Topper have appeared in over 150 places in the UK in 2022 along with a couple of full size soldiers and the 2022 topper showing a pair of boots and a helmet.
SKB is definitely an influencer where post box toppers are concerned and as always she only does them to bring a smile to the people of Syston.
Which she certainly does!
As well as toppers SKB and ourselves raised money for two local charities in 2021 with a topper calendar for 2022 and have produced another one for 2023.
