Mothering Sunday
We welcomed several families to our Mothering Sunday service. The service was conducted by Reverend John Leonard with Theresa Morgan and Ruth Leonard. The younger people were asked to decide how much their mothers might charge for the various jobs they do while bringing them up.
Of course the charge was nothing!
During the service the children potted up geranium cuttings to take home to grow on into plants.
After the service there were refreshments, including a chance to enjoy home made, traditional Simnel cake.
Holy Week and Easter
Holy Week began with the Palm Sunday Communion celebration recalling Jesus’ triumphal arrival in Jerusalem.
Each evening Monday to Wednesday prayers were said until Maundy Thursday when there was a special Communion service commemorating the Last Supper that Jesus had with his friends before being arrested and taken away.
Then on Good Friday we recalled the Crucifixion. There was an all age worship service in the morning where those present recalled Holy Week but also included the Resurrection. In the afternoon there was a reflection of the Last Hour before Jesus died on the cross. On Holy Saturday a service of reflection and quiet prayer.
And then, on Sunday, a Dawn Service at 6am to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus led by Revd John Leonard. The special fire was lit and prayers said. This was followed by breakfast!
The celebrations continued at the normal 10am Service where many people gathered to sing joyfully, say prayers, hear a sermon from Revd Biddy Saunders and receive communion.
This was followed by refreshments in the hall.
A very special week for the Christian family!
Flagpole
The family of Leigh Baker generously donated money to St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Syston in his memory. The Church Council thought long and hard about an appropriate use for this kind gift and with permission from the family they decided to use it towards the repair of the flagpole. This has enabled the flag to be flying this Easter and for the Kings Coronation.
They felt it made a bold statement and that his family and friends could remember Leigh every time they see the flag flying, and the whole of Syston can enjoy it too.
