Ring for the King

34 Ringers from parishes around the Syston area were organised by Amanda Adams and Maurice Kirk, both Queniborough ringers, into two groups to ring in four parishes each and finally to gather around 4pm at Syston. One group rang at Thurmaston, Rearsby, Thrussington and Ratcliffe, the other at Thurnby, Scraptoft, Queniborough and Barkby.
Those of us in the first group were very lucky. The person who opened the church for us was so delighted to hear the bells ringing she rustled up a cup of tea and biscuits, which was very welcome!
Once at Syston most of those who had rung at the churches gathered for a group photo before climbing the 39 stairs to ring on the eight bells. It was a very special opportunity for some of the new ringers who had not rung on eight bells before.
It was agreed by all that it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon to commemorate a very special occasion.
