Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning part one. A Blockbuster dose of adrenaline
The Story
When an AI named ‘The Entity’ goes rogue, it’s a mission only Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and co can stop, but they aren’t the only ones after it.
Thoughts
“We live and die in the shadows” An ominous Ethan Hunt briefs us at the very start. Though I’d argue the massive action set pieces and city wide car chases might just tell a different story.
Ever since director McQuarrie joined Cruise and the Mission Impossible franchise back in 2015, the pair have continuously pushed the boundaries of action, creating bigger and crazier stunts for us to gawk at each time.
Much like those two prior instalments, Dead Reckoning part one continues that tradition with; motorcycle cliff jumping, high speed train top fist fights, and so much more. It’s breakneck action, one that probably should supply you with a seat belt to avoid coming out of the theatre with whiplash.
Thankfully the movie recognises it’s a spy thriller first and foremost. Interwoven with the spectacle, is a genuine tale of suspense, littered with plenty of comedic breaks along the way. Providing you just enough time to catch your breath, raise the stakes, and strap you in, before pumping you with its next shot of adrenaline.
In a Nutshell
Simply put, Dead Reckoning part one is an absolutely relentless action affair, one that punches the accelerator and never lets up.
