Runday

Runday isn’t just a running club, it is so much more
Self doubt exists in all of us, but through Runday, there is a group of people who are coming together to improve not only their fitness but their mental health and confidence too.
We caught up with the group ahead of their new beginners run group which starts in September, to find out what it is that makes Runday so special. The group have become infamous in Syston and the surrounding villages for their bright yellow running tops, but as Runday-er Vicky said “Runday isn’t just a running club, it is so much more” Runday has given me a new sense of freedom, over the last six months I have felt so much healthier and happier.”
Sue thinks the group support is just amazing, something she hasn’t found in other sports, “It is all driven by Michelle and her belief that we can all do it. There’s no such word as ‘slow’ or ‘sorry’ with Runday” Kim agreed, telling us “the support, encouragement and belief in each person at each session is amazing. If I ever doubt my ability (which I do often) the group especially Michelle never doubt me, encouraging me to do my best and without exception, at the end of every session I feel so proud and happy of what I achieve. I’ve made friends and I’m much fitter but I’ve also found a group that has welcomed me with open arms.”
Marie said her mental health and confidence has improved since joining Runday and she no longer feels guilty for taking time out for her. “When I am putting my trainers on, I am teaching my girls the importance of exercise to be fit and strong” Kate agrees “I’m also so proud of the example I am setting my kids – you don’t have to be the best at something to love it and you don’t have to look like a runner to be a runner.”
It’s the community, connections and friendships that Runday has forged that keeps them coming back.
Sharan told us “I certainly wouldn’t still be running if it wasn’t for the fantastic encouragement and support from Michelle and the rest of the Runday gang. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are, the support is still the same. Best thing I started….. EVER!!!”
Abi runs her own business from home and finds that meeting up and running with like-minded people 2-3 times a week gives her focus and drive for whatever the working week wants to throw at her. “It’s the mental and social rest my busy mind needs to make sure it stays healthy and well.”
Runday meet to run in Syston every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Their new Beginners Run Group starts week commencing 18th September and is suitable for complete beginners or those returning to running.
