Why do I volunteer for Syston and District Volunteer Centre

When I retired in 2020 I wanted to be able to volunteer in some way – I wasn’t sure in what way but saw that the Syston and District Volunteer Centre needed drivers. As an experienced driver this would suit me down to the ground.
But then you do the runs and you realise just how much the clients appreciate what you are doing – nice to go home with a smile on your face even when times are tough – or rather especially when times are tough.
It is such a great feeling to know that you have helped people who need it for no more reward than a pleasant smile and a thank you.
In the time I have been a volunteer driver, demand has risen dramatically, even now doubling up on some runs – this can present it’s own problems!
The needs are ever increasing with the reduction in central services such as patient transport.
So if you have the time and the desire to help others please consider joining us as a volunteer driver – you will enjoy it and you will be helping a lot of local people in the process.
