Age Concern Syston
Age Concern Syston is a self-funding charity providing many benefits for local older people. Help and advice is always readily available when needed, and there are weekly coffee mornings held at the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesdays from 10-11.30am. Also trips out on the minibus are organised to various places of interest.
Throughout August and September, entertainment at the coffee mornings has included music from the 40s to 70s by vocalist Kerry Jean with everyone enjoying singing along, a display of Irish dancing by Faith Dixon, a food tasting session provided by ICare Meals on Wheels, musical entertainment by Eileen and Keith from the Little Big Band and a painting demonstration by a local artist. Trips out have included pub lunches, a cruise on the River Trent and a ride on the Great Central Railway.
The continued efforts of the staff and volunteers are very much appreciated by all the members.
The main fundraising effort this year is the Christmas Fayre to be held on Saturday 11th November from 10.00am to 2.00pm at the Syston Methodist Church Hall. Hopefully, this will be very well supported in order to raise much needed funds.
