Karen Price(nee Oswin)

Principal of Goscote Dance
Passed away 9th September 2023
Karen started her dancing career at the age of two and a half at a local dancing school. At the age of four she started at the Ann Oliver School of Dance in Leicester. Over the years she took numerous exams with the Royal Academy of Dance, British Ballet Organisation, International Dance Teachers Association finishing with The British Theatre Dance Association gaining high marks in all grades.
Over the years she entered many dance competitions, coming away with many trophies, also entering the National Competitions with the BTDA and becoming champion in many subjects.
In 1984 in association with Barry Young they opened The Goscote Hall School of Dance in Birstall, teaching the BTDA syllabus.
Karen then moved to teach in Syston, renaming the school Goscote Dance, using the St. Peter & St. Paul’s Church Hall and the Malt House Suite at the Conservative Club which continues to be used.
Over the years the school has held 181 examination sessions, with excellent results for all students. Also, the school has entered numerous dance festivals and the students have come away with many trophies.
The most memorable moments for the school have been to perform at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London, The London Palladium, Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London and at Disneyland Paris.
With the school fast approaching its 40th birthday, we aim to celebrate this achievement by taking a troupe of dancers to perform at Disneyland Paris once again.
Karen’s daughter Megan has now taken over the running of the school, and if you would like any more information about the school, please contact Megan on 0771 973 7892.
