New Barkby WI
Shirley Franklin, President, welcomed members and visitors to New Barkby Women’s Institute’s April meeting.
‘Jerusalem’ was sung followed by business matters, including a report of the recent W.I Annual Council Meeting for Leicestershire and Rutland.
This evening’s talk (Postponed from January) was given by Phillipa Guy, a career image and life coach, offering advice with ‘colour me beautiful’ on how to enhance one’s appearance by matching colours, using swatches of different hues of fabric to a face or neck, hair and eyes; e.g dark colours for a person with dark hair or pastel shades for a light haired person.
Some members volunteered to have a colour match during the talk and were able to look at various photographs of different styles for an image and to discuss makeup for different coloured skin types.
Afterwards there was a question and answer session.
The vote of thanks was given by Angela Montague. The competition winner for a favourite accessory was Valerie Cobb with a parasol made from bamboo and paper.
At social time, members were able to buy plants and do a swap with several varieties brought in by members.
The raffle prize was won by Cilla Lane – A large Easter Egg.
The date of the next meeting is Wednesday 1st May 2024 at 7.30pm. It will be held in the Syston Community Centre. All Visitors are welcomed.
