St Peter and St Paul’s Church News
Parish Barbeque
Revd Ros and her husband Phill generously hosted a Parish barbeque for the sister parishes of St Hilda’s East Goscote and St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Syston. Then original plan was to hold the event in the garden of the Rectory but the good old British weather prevented the outdoor experience!
Instead, tables and chairs had been arranged in the church. This didn’t prevent people having a really enjoyable time. There was a most sumptuous choice of burgers and sausages. Several people had donated salads to go with the meat course. This was followed by delicious donated paddings.
Parishioners of both churches were most grateful for the generosity of Revd Ros and her family.
Syston Summer Fayre
As a church we decided that, this year, we wanted a space just for us, as we have occupied spaces in the Help is at Hand marquee in past years. We set out on display our rocks for decorating, pens, the Baptism and Wedding packs and our leaflets about our family Sunday events.
We attracted a wide range of people and ages, and engaged in some valuable conversations, accompanied by our Vicar Revd Ros. We had a rota of volunteers who helped run the stall and we are very grateful for that support.
The activity, decorating stones, allowed us to share our Christian values of being kind, loving each other, and being supportive in difficult times. There was the option to hide their stones for others to find, or to take their stones and give them to another person, hoping that their messages would ripple out across Syston and beyond.
Praise in the Park
On Saturday 31st August Churches Together in Syston met for Praise in the Park. The sun shone as we worshipped together and it was a truly joyful occasion. The theme this year was peace and love. Revd Ros gave a short reflection on God’s great love for everyone and we concluded with a prayer for peace for our world. We were joined by Syston Happy Ukulele Band who got everybody singing and dancing! Our next Churches Together event will be Carols in the Square – more details to follow.
Families@4
For our first family service of the new school year we chose the theme of New Beginnings. We listened to the story of Noah and reflected on new beginnings in our own lives. We also had lots of fun making rain with shaving foam and food colouring and painting rainbows to remind us of God’s love.
Our next Families@4 service will be at 16:00 on Sunday 13th October. We meet in the church hall opposite the church. This is a relaxed and informal service so do come along and join the fun.
Service of Loving Remembrance – Sunday 3rd November 4.00pm
On Sunday 3rd November at 4.00pm there will be a Service of Loving Remembrance to remember those we love but see no longer. This will be a gentle and reflective space with an opportunity to light a candle in memory of loved ones who have gone before us. Everyone is welcome.
