Congratulations and Thank You
The Stn arranged to meet with our amazing flood wardens for a photograph on the Millennium bridge to say, congratulations and thank you for all the hours they have put in helping residents since October 2023 when the Barkby Brook first broke its banks for the first time since 1993 and flooded homes in the centre of the town.
Unfortunately, the Brook broke its banks again on 2nd January 2024 and caused even more damage to peoples homes, some of whom are as yet not back in their homes and some won’t be back until March 2025!
Ree Nugent, Syston Flood Warden Co-ordinator has been Syston’s Flood Warden since 2016 and is the most diligent person you could meet.
She along with her son Maxwell and Tim Lewin all pictured above have been monitoring the Brook ever since. Going out in the middle of the night checking the level of the brook and alerting residents who could be affected by flooding, taking sand bags to the elderly and vulnerable.
The other three flood wardens, Cllr Ian Hayes, Neil Skinner and Sarah Cavendish, unfortunately, were not available to be in the photograph, so we thank them too.
Congratulations to the Syston Flood Wardens, who received a special Charnwood Community Heroes award for working tirelessly to keep residents safe and keeping them informed when there is flooding in the area.
So, Syston says Thank You to you all!
