New Barkby WI

Shirley Franklin, President, welcomed New Barkby members to the institutes October meeting. After Jerusalem was sung, there were a few business matters for consideration.
Then there was a welcome for Lynne Grant from Hannah’s Sugarcraft (Quorn). Members heard of Lynne’s experience, working in sugarcraft for 30 years and that she still enjoys her work.
A plastic work board is preferable to wood (because of the grain) and to use cornflour to keep hands and the board free from stickiness. Members watched as Lynne moulded a piece of dough into the shape of a boy with sugar paste and various colouring (water based). The figure had blue trousers, grey jumper, black shoes, pink hands and a head which had brown hair. Facial features were added afterwards using a special etching tool. An amazing creation to decorate a cake. Everyone enjoyed the decoration of Lynne’s creativity.
There was a display of chocolates and cakes to look at as well as being available for purchase if desired.
The vote of thanks was given by Valerie Cobb.
The Competition for “A favourite Sweet Recipe” was won by Louise Chapman.
The raffle was won by Anna Wright.
The date of the next meeting is Wednesday 6th November at Syston Community Centre starting at 7.30pm.
This will be our Annual Meeting, including A Quiz.
Visitors Welcome to attend.
