Friends of Barkby Road Cemetery

Hi everybody,
I hope you have had the best New Year that you could and hope that this year brings you what you need.
It’s a quiet time of the year for our lovely cemetery. The wreaths will start to be removed from the beginning of February. The dead flowers will continue to be removed as and when as normal.
The wildflower garden should start to appear soon, planting the seeds will be in early March, it should look fantastic.
New fencing has been put up to hide the sand, the tubs and compost area etc.
We are delighted to have been awarded the top award in the Best New Entry category and the award is situated in the waiting room area.
As usual if you’d like to join friends of the cemetery or if you wish to hire our beautiful chapel (seat cushions will soon be arriving if they’re not already in situ), please contact Catherine Voyce at Syston Town Council on 0116 260 7150. Likewise, if you want to plant a Standard Rose along the gravel runways in memory of a loved one who has died.
A bit of great news for you, as many of you will be aware we have not been allowed to have normal tea light candles in the chapel since last Christmas unless there was somebody on site. We recently attended a meeting at the council of the amenities committee and they agreed that we could now have the lighted tea light candles providing that the risk is managed sufficiently, which we have agreed to do.
Take care everyone
Love Ros.
