Heart of England Chorus Invites You
Best wishes from the Heart of England Chorus for a fabulous summer. The weather is certainly living up to our English reputation of being unpredictable. However, we have had some very warm sunny days so let’s hope we get some more and we can all get out and socialise.
Let me start by telling you a little bit about our Chorus and you may want to come along and see what we do. Singing is only a part of this, it’s a chance to meet and make new friends, join in with social evenings and enjoy regular cakes.
The Heart of England Chorus is a four part harmony barber shop style chorus comprising of both male and female members.
The group was started more than 50 years ago by Roy Phillips. Over the years a number of Roy’s family have been involved with the group. His son Ian is currently our Musical Director and Ian’s wife Sarah, his son John and his daughter Amy are all members. Its fabulous to see so many people of one family active in the group and all making a positive contribution.
Barber shop style singing may not be something you might have considered joining in with but it’s not too late however old (or young) you are. We are a non-audition group so no pressure to feel you are being scrutinised, and obviously as part of a larger number of singers you can blend in or shine out within your own comfort zone. I’m not saying its easy to learn four part harmonies, but when we get it right it sounds amazing.
We perform in different settings which we thoroughly enjoy, singing just lightens the heart and makes people smile. Whether we are performing at concerts, Residential Homes, Christmas fetes or other venues, we all enjoy seeing positive audience reactions.
We meet every Monday at Birstall Social Club, Wanlip Lane, Birstall from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. We would be delighted to see some new faces. So, if you just want to see what we do, or are looking to join our group then please feel free to pop along any Monday evening. Alternately please contact John Phillips on 0773 852 6757 to have a chat.
