Chicago
Students and staff committed over a hundred hours to ensure that Wreake Valley’s school production of ‘Chicago’ was a roaring success! The process began way back in September as the students from Years 8-13 nervously auditioned for the school production. With such a strong field of talent at Wreake, casting was not an easy decision. The consistent professional approach by the students meant that rehearsals ran extremely well and this led to one of the best productions we have seen at Wreake Valley. The show was also a first time collaboration for Wreake Valley music students and the Syston Swing Band. It was great for our students to sit side by side with such experienced musicians and we are extremely grateful to each member of the band for their time and dedication given. The show also gave some of our past students an opportunity to ‘give something back’ with Mackenzie Measures taking the role of choreographer and Jed Lester designing the publicity material.
Mr Clamp, our Teacher of Music and I enjoyed working on ‘Chicago’ and it was great to see the student’s passion growing for the Arts and recognising its importance both inside and outside the classroom. After such success with this production we are pleased to announce that tickets for ‘Bugsy Malone’ will be on sale in the near future as we embark on our second school production this year involving students from Years 7-9 on stage and Year 10 and 12 students assisting with a variety of production roles. If you missed ‘Chicago’ be sure not to miss ‘Bugsy Malone’ on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July as I am sure this will be another great success.
Details of when tickets go on sale will be posted on our website: www.wvacademy.org Facebook page: Wreake Valley Academy and on Twitter: WreakeValleyAC Mrs Connolley, Head of Creative Arts and Technology.
