The End of Fernleigh House

Some of you may have noticed that there is a big To Let board outside the Fernleigh House building in Syston, Leicester – that’s because in January 2020, we’re going to be relocating… The office here in Syston has been a great home to us for the six years that we’ve been here but we’re now pleased to announce that we’ve outgrown ‘Fernleigh House’ and are moving to a much bigger building down the road from us. Before we tell you where we’re moving to, we wanted to share some of our best moments in the building:- We moved in in 2013 because the name ‘Fernleigh’ was so close to our brand name so it just made sense – it was like a sign; in fact, it was – on the gate! – We wanted to keep the heritage of the building and loved the quirks and characteristics of it all, so we used the door knocker as inspiration for our logo. – We initially only needed four desks for Shareholders Kevin, John, Neil and Stefan and they all moved into one room which we now use as Board room. The rest were client rooms or areas for the future…- Making the building feel like Furnley House was a real family affair, Stefan and his father in law put the Furnley House sign outside the building to attract passers-by, Helen Haley was the official gardener before she came inside and joined us to sort out some admin work. We only used to have one portable phone for the office and used to hand it around to the relevant person when someone a client called.- We invested in a tiny little fridge to store two pints of milk for drinks, that wouldn’t even last the first tea run these days!- As we got more people, we decided it was time to decorate the extra offices – all the Directors got involved in decorating the additional offices, coming in at weekends and sticking around in the evenings to make the rooms feel like offices. – We had a mini Table tennis table at one point – now lovingly called the ‘Complinance’ room where Compliance and Finance are both based. Unsurprisingly the month we started playing table tennis was the lowest performing month Furnley House ever had! – We’ve had the Leicester Riders visit our lovely offices and make us all feel small!!- We tried to squeeze a lot of people into a Fiat 500 to raise funds for LOROS and poor Joel was being sent in through the window…- Before we moved in Fernleigh House was home to a whole host of different companies including Contractor Weekly, Qdos, Leicester Optical Ltd and 1st call Care. In fact, if you do a search for Furnley House, Leicester on Google Maps and using the little man to navigate down Albert street, you’ll still see the old Qdos sign. (Come on Google – come and visit Syston again…)- At some point, it was a very posh house and there are buttons scattered about the building… – Why? We presume they were once used to summon servants from their quarters (currently our reception area) to wherever the owners wanted them to be… Some of them still work but they’re predominantly used to let reception know we’re still in the building, so we don’t get locked in!- We’ve had some great times in this place and are looking forward to our next office…So where are we going? To yet another office that’s currently too big for us but we will grow into… We’re still going to be based in Leicester and aren’t too far from our current office. We’ll have two floors again and plenty of parking (hooray!) For anyone that knows Leicester, it’s the old Clear & Lane Accountants building on 340 Melton Road in Rushey Mead. We’re incredibly excited about all the space we’ll have and the way we’ve bought the building, we’ll share more news as soon as we can… Furnley House
