Garden Waste Service Resumes

Charnwood Borough Council is resuming its garden waste service from Monday 20th April.

The service, which has more than 30,000 customers, was suspended on 23rd March due to staff shortages caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The service is being phased back in and the Council will start emptying bins for garden waste customers from Monday 20th April.

The Council will focus on different areas of the borough each week for the next four weeks.

For week commencing 20th April, the Council will be emptying garden waste bins in the following locations:

  • West of Loughborough (list of streets on the website)
  • Burton
  • Cotes
  • Hathern
  • Hoton
  • Prestwold
  • Walton
  • Wymeswold
  • Quorn
  • Rothley
  • Swithland
  • Woodhouse
  • Woodhouse Eaves

Customers are advised to put their bins out by 6am on the Monday of the week they are due to be collected (regardless of what the usual collection day is).

The Council will endeavour to empty the garden waste bins on Monday and Tuesday, but it may take longer. Customers should leave their bins out until they are emptied.

If bins are too heavy they will not be emptied. No garden side waste will be collected.

The Council is aiming to empty bins around 8,000 homes each week.

Due to the pressure on resources the council will not be able to return for any missed bin collections. They apologise for this inconvenience, but their resources are still very limited and the time taken to return for a missed bin could mean many others are not emptied.

While the garden waste service will be operating again, they are only planning to empty your garden bins once over the next four weeks (instead of the usual once a fortnight).
