Harry Taylor – 1924 to 2020
It is with deepest regret we announce that Harry Taylor who lived at Forge Court passed away peacefully on 8th October 2020 aged 95.
Harry along with his wife Nora were one of the first couples to move into McCarthy and Stone Retirement Flats built in Syston next to the Health Centre in 2003.
Both born in Leicester in the 1920’s they had their own business called ‘Halnor Lingerie Ltd’ employing 25 people producing Ladies and Children’s Nightwear and Lingerie, selling not only in England but exporting to Norway, Saudi Ariba and Ireland.
They lived in Syston for many years before moving to Forge Court where they enjoyed a very comfortable life, and were extremely happy there.
They celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in 2006 along with another couple who lived there Mr and Mrs John and Marion Brown and the Leicester Mercury were there to take photos of this happy occasion.
Unfortunately, Nora passed away on 2nd October 2013 aged 91 and Harry continued to live in his apartment until last June 2020 when after a fall he was admitted to the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
His funeral took place at Loughborough Crematorium on 2nd November 2020 but because of Covid and the fact that all of the Stonemasons in the area were so incredibly busy, his ashes still have not been interred at Syston Cemetery.
Hopefully this will happen in February or March this year.
Like many people who have lost loved ones in the pandemic perhaps by next year his family will be able to ‘Celebrate his Life’ in some form as that was not allowed in 2020.
Though Harry did not die of Covid, he died because of Covid and the lockdown measures which meant the lack of family and friends to visit and care for him in his hour of need!
God bless Dad and may light perpetual shine upon him x
