Mixed Bag Of Results For Town C.C.

The lack of consistency that has dogged Syston Town C.C.’s 1st XI this season seems set to continue. Against league leaders Kibworth, Syston posted a challenging 158-7 thanks largely to a stand of 60 between Umar Razzaq (39) and Charlie Taylor (38). Kibworth fought hard but were dismissed for 141 with three wickets each for Umar and Mo Pardesi. Next up were Sileby who were dismissed for 181 but Syston could only reach 141 in reply. Syston then piled up 281-4 at Barrow with Umar Razzaq unbeaten on 138. The home side could make only 111 with Zahir Taher (4-19) the pick of the bowlers. The following week Syston made only 68 against an excellent Langtons attack. Syston bowled well but Langtons got home despite losing six wickets in the process. A trip to Newtown Linford followed and the home side were bowled out for 194. Syston knocked off the runs losing only three wickets with Ram Ghuman making 68 and Charles Wootton 53.
Medbourne were dismissed by the 2nd XI for 126 with Chirag Modi taking 4-37 but despite Ben Drake hitting 48, Syston could only reach 123-9. A trip to Lutterworth followed and Syston racked up 230-9 with Ben Drake (pictured) striking a brilliant 118 and George Royle 54. Lutterworth made a good response but finished short on 214-9. Against Langtons 2nd XI, Syston did well to post 180-9 thanks mainly to an opening stand of 73 between Kabir Dhadyalla (37) and Oliver Hubbard (33). Syston’s bowlers made early inroads but the decisive breakthrough would not come and Langtons got home to win by three wickets. A trip to Barkby followed and Syston piled 244-7 with Charlie Royle making 82 and Asad Pathan 72. Barkby were dismissed for 68 with Chirag Modi (4-31) and Pete Howard (4-10) doing the damage. Against Bharat Sports, Syston made 211-8 with Ben Drake again top scoring with 52. Bharat set off confidently and despite a rush of late wickets, got home with three wickets to spare.
The Sunday XI made it ten wins in a row with a six wicket victory over Market Overton. The home side made 196-9 with three wickets each for Ben and Dave Tebbutt. Syston knocked off the runs in quick time thanks to an unbeaten stand of 119 between Yash Patel (99 not out) and Simran Supra (30 not out). Stamford conceded the next game after which Syston lost their first game of the season against Barrow who piled up 267-3 and bowled Syston out for just 97. Similarly in their next game Buckminster racked up 245-1 and restricted Syston to 126-7. Despite these setbacks the Sunday XI stay top of the league and remain favourites for promotion.
