LSA Brings Fine Art to Newarke Houses Museum
Leicester Society of Artists (LSA) in partnership with Newarke Houses Museum hosted a small artworks show over three weeks from 7th to 31st October, raising over £900 for the museum.
This venue has not hosted a fine arts show before but the hard work and enthusiasm from the museum staff and the LSA was plain to see and the results speak for themselves.
Jo Jones, Head of Arts, Museums Festivals and Events at Leicester City Council said,
“The LSA members who are all artists in Leicestershire and Rutland really stepped up to the plate and submitted a stunning range of works which truly showed the wealth of talent in the county.“
The exhibition included LSA funded awards and prizes sponsored by four business for a selection of the best works on show. The judging panel comprised of three independent art professionals. Jeremy Webster, Deputy Director of the Attenborough Arts Centre, Andy Price, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the De Montfort University and Dayle Flude, Gallerist and Art Curator.
Deputy City Mayor Councillor Piara Singh-Clair, the lead guest speaker at the Awards Ceremony when prizes were presented to eight artists said he was looking forward to more shows with the LSA.
“The LSA has 136 year relationship with the Leicester Museum Services and has been working hard throughout the Covid 19 challenges and lock downs to find ways to keep art alive in Leicester. We are looking forward to more collaborations with the LSA.“
