St Peter and St Paul’s Church News

Joint service
It was a very special Sunday on January 14th when members of the congregation of St Peter & St Paul’s Church welcomed members of the congregations of St Hilda’s, East Goscote, and Syston Methodist Church to hear the visiting preacher, Jo Kay.
Her sermon was based on the Gospel for the day, from Luke where Jesus turned water into wine after the wine had run out. This was his first recorded miracle. However, Jo introduced the thought that his mother, Mary, was already aware how special Jesus was and that, previously, since he was a child, he may have helped other people but it was never recorded.
It was a very joyous occasion with some rousing hymns especially those of the founders of the Methodist Church, Charles and Samuel Wesley.
Following the service there were refreshments in the Church Centre and time for fellowship.

Easter at St Peter and St Paul’s Church
The Church will be preparing to celebrate Easter by having a series of services during Holy Week before celebrating Easter Day itself on Sunday the 31st March.
On 25th, 26th and 27th March at 7.30pm there will be Stations of the Cross, praying at each of the carvings on the walls of the church retelling the events of Holy Week.
On Thursday 28th it is Maundy Thursday when there will be a Communion Service at 7.30pm recalling the first Communion Jesus had with his disciples. This will be followed by a Vigil kept for silent worship and prayer.
Good Friday the 29th March has a 10am Service of Children’s Easter Activities.
At 2pm there is a Service, The Hour of the Cross, at St Hilda’s Church, East Goscote.
And then on Easter Day 31st March at 10.30am we can celebrate in great happiness at a special Communion Service. Remembering the fact that Jesus rose again!
