U3A Syston & District
Drift Away to a Desert Island, which is exactly what seventeen of us did when we chose one memorable song from a special period in our lives or one which linked back to a major event, which in many cases, changed our lives !
Barbara Sargeant, pictured below, adapted this long running radio programme and organised this event, ably assisted by Angie Baker for the benefit of U3A members.
Each piece of music had a backstory which was shared with all those present in true ‘Desert Island Disc’ style. Some reasons were very personal whilst others very poignant.
Luxury items and book choices included a novelty Hot Water Bottle, a guitar, ‘Wisden’s book of Cricket ‘and the ‘Oxford English Dictionary’ prompting much hilarity and an opportunity for lively conversation.
We sang, we danced and we ate cake, in fact a perfect morning.
This is just one of the many ideas for one off experiences on offer to members. Whatever someone thinks of doing (Paddle Boarding and Segway are on my list) there usually is a way to do it.
All events are in addition to our regular group activities which range from learning to play Bridge to Yoga
Past events include, Tai Chi, Burlesque, Croquet, Jewellery making and many more to be arranged.
There is NO limit to the fun which can be enjoyed as a member of ‘Syston and District U3A’. Watch the YouTube video we made for more fun, visit our website, https://www.systonu3a.org.uk or phone 0300 102 1381 for more details about membership and current group activities.
