Syston’s Perilous Pavement
Dear Editor,
No prizes for guessing! It is of course the stretch between Costa and the small entrance to the Food Warehouse to which I became victim to on a recent Saturday afternoon when my right arm was hit by the wing mirror of a passing car.
The usual gridlock allowed me to confront the driver a bit further on who replied to my concern in a patronising manner and had the last word in stating that I should have moved over on the pavement. This in fact was not possible due to pedestrians walking in the opposite direction, causing us to walk abreast of each other. Clearly, the car was very close to the pavement edge and the root cause of that, was a combination of the narrow pavement aggravated by the legal and illegal vehicles parked on the opposite side of the road in front of the Town Hall Square.
I would hope that any local councillors reading this would consider how dangerous this pavement is to all that use it. Obviously the pavement cannot be widened so maybe another option would be to remove the legal parking bays on the road opposite (which may also deter the illegal parking at either end), this would allowing local vehicles to pass each other without resorting to driving extremely close to the perilous pavement.
The car drivers choose not to enquire if I was injured or otherwise if he is reading this, I can confirm that thankfully I suffered no serious injury. However, there could have been different outcome for someone who was unfortunate enough to have brittle bones or other issues whereby impact trauma could lead to complications.

Syston Town Centre
Dear Editor,
Spring is on its way but the showpiece Town Centre is looking a little tired and in need of some TLC. The lighting globes need a good clean, weeds are growing around shop frontages as well as in the cracks and joints of the brick paving. Waste bins are rotting plus the woodwork/paint on the shop frontages leaves a lot to be desired. Worse still drains and gutters are blocked resulting in water in the wrong places. Thank goodness for the popular shops and businesses which brighten things up, in particular the Bay Tree Café which is a wonderful meeting place for many Systonians.
