Dennis North
It is with deep sadness that I have to put pen to paper to inform the people of Syston that we have lost our local hero, on the 29 December 2022.
Able Seaman Mr Dennis North, R.N. Ordre De La Legion d’Honneur which was received in 2019 by the French Embassy for his involvement in the D-Day landings of the 2rd World War.
At 18 he was too young to be involved in earlier action, he was the Helmsman on HMS Vivacious a minesweeper, his ship made numerous crossing of the channel taking men and materials to the French coast, finally escorting the Mulberry Harbour.
His ship was then dispatch to help in the relief of Antwerp, then moved to the North Sea chasing U-Boats.
Dennis has left two sons Dougie and Alan who were present at his investiture of his Legion d’Honneur and Grandchildren to many to mention.
Dennis was a devoted member of The Royal British Legion in Syston holding many appointments over the years, and was an active member in trying to save the club.
God Bless You Sir. R.1.P.
Thanks Mate, Monthly Breakfast won’t same. John Collis
