Team 3G Update on Their Travels Again for LOROS
As it has not been possible to organise the ‘From Classics to Jazz’ concert this year because of Rachael’s playing commitments in Hull, Maureen and Rachael decided to virtually pedal the ‘North Coast 500’ – 516 miles round the coast of Scotland starting at Inverness and travelling clockwise.
By the time you read this they will be 11 weeks into their journey and have just passed 400 miles and are ‘approaching’ Wick. The imagined scenery from John O’Groats down to Inverness is far less spectacular than the West coast and the hills are much less evident!
In the next three weeks they have to ‘pedal’ the last 111 miles to complete the NC 500 and ‘reach’ Inverness by the 19th July, the 26th anniversary of when Maureen’s husband Jim passed away in LOROS.
Hopefully they will complete this in the 14 weeks since Maureen’s 83rd birthday. Faith (11) is well on her way to walking and cycling 100 miles – the distance from her home in Hull to the LOROS hospice, although she is still convinced that she can exceed this. While she was in Syston at half term she helped deliver over 100 copies of the Syston Town News, adding to her total mileage, see image below.
Maureen and Rachael are still hoping to reach their goal of raising £500 for LOROS.
Since 2000 with the ‘From Classics to Jazz’ concerts and their virtual journeys during lockdown to Norfolk and back and Lands End to John O’Groats, they have so far raised over £10,000. They hope that as many people as possible will continue to support them in their fundraising efforts for LOROS, a charity which will always remain close to their hearts.
